Michael Wasserman concentrates his practice in the areas of health care and hospital law, contract law, and business law. Mr. Wasserman's broad-based health care experience provides him with in-depth knowledge of all aspects of the business of health care, enabling him to guide the firm's clients through the maze of regulations, corporate structuring, and transactional pitfalls. Mr. Wasserman has represented a diverse group of health care providers and entities including hospitals, hospital medical staffs, long-term care facilities, physicians, physician specialty organizations, and other health-related entities in matters of health and hospital law, including, without limitation: the analysis of health care fraud and abuse matters, JCAHO matters, reimbursement issues, tax-exempt issues, and other corporate compliance and federal and state regulatory matters. Mr. Wasserman has significant experience in the areas of facility and provider licensure and expansion, the formation and structuring of new entities and multidisciplinary medical practices, management services arrangements, real estate matters, asset purchases, joint ventures, shareholder and employment arrangements, and other agreements, and the development of managed care networks. Mr. Wasserman served as General Counsel & Vice President for four years at CarePlus Health Plan, a NYC-based health maintenance organization where he was responsible for the oversight of all internal and external legal operations, including, without limitation, the general corporate affairs and regulatory compliance. As a member of the executive management team from the initial start-up phase of the company, Mr. Wasserman was involved in all day-to-day operations with responsibilities including the legal oversight and development of the health care delivery network and transactional representation with hospitals, physicians, IPAs, ancillary service providers and vendors, and governmental subdivisions. Mr. Wasserman's additional responsibilities included regulatory and corporate due diligence, the oversight of the complaint & grievance protocol, corporate and human resource policy development, employment and labor law matters, technological and product expansion and advancement, program development, and the corporate structuring and organization of affiliated health care entities and ventures including home health care agencies and long term care facilities. Mr. Wasserman's in-house experience also includes serving as Counsel for four years at Greater New York Health Care Facilities Association, a NYC-based trade association representing more than 150 long-term care facilities, including skilled nursing facilities and adult homes. At the Association, Mr. Wasserman represented member-entities in civil litigation matters, specializing in actions related to business transactions, collection and judgment enforcement, civil rights and guardianship. Mr. Wasserman interfaced with state and city governmental agencies regarding the development, interpretation and enforcement of regulations, and directed provider compliance with bio-ethical & advance decision-making standards as a participant on the Association's multi-disciplinary bio-ethics committee.
