Education Law

Scarinci Hollenbeck works with educational institutions throughout the entire State and provides comprehensive general and special counsel representation to universities, community colleges, school districts and other private education clients.

Scarinci Hollenbeck provides a range of services to its education clients, including employment law and labor relations and provides all related trial and appellate litigation, as well as all administrative agency work.

The Group negotiates collective bargaining agreements, conducts mediation and fact-finding proceedings, and frequently appears at grievance arbitration hearings. Our attorneys routinely appear before the Commissioner of Education, the Department of Personnel, the New Jersey Public Employment Relations Commission and other Office of Administrative Law, and several members of the firm litigate all types of matters on a routine basis.

Scarinci Hollenbeck has been representing Abbott, or special needs districts, since the landmark ruling of Abbott vs. Burke. Our attorneys have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the unique administrative regulations governing these districts. Their representation encompasses the full spectrum of services, including traditional education law and labor relations matters, compliance, funding issues and budgetary challenges, early childhood education requirements and, when applicable, school construction matters.

In addition to having serviced educational institutions for many years, our attorneys includes former teachers, professors, and school board members. As such, they understand the unique and often complex needs of academic institutions and are dedicated to ensuring their success.

The extensive knowledge and experience of our education attorneys, combined with that of the attorneys throughout the Firm, enables us to assist our education clients in virtually every area of law that affects them. In addition our vast labor and employment experience, as school board attorneys, we have assisted our clients in all kinds of matters, some of which are somewhat unique to the schools - such as bidding questions, drafting specifications, seniority questions, tenure questions, non-renewals, special education, contracts, teacher certification, first amendment rights of students, parents and staff, construction issues, election issues, and general public agency issues.
