We work with a wide range of communications and media clients, including daily and weekly newspapers, magazine, broadcasters, book publishers and other media entities. Our extensive practice includes both litigation and counseling in a wide variety of media and First Amendments issues ranging from the closure of courtrooms, to the handling of subpoenas issued to reporters, the challenging of prior restraints, and defending invasion of privacy and defamation claims.

In the area of litigation, our attorneys are recognized for their thorough understanding of First Amendment Law and extensive courtroom experience. We have participated all types of communications and media litigation, including all areas of free speech and press, defamation and privacy defense matters. We defend media companies and their employees against defamation, libel and invasion of privacy claims. We have been highly successful in our representation of the media in cases involving access to public records and court records and challenges to prior-restraints. In fact, our success has been well-documented by the impressive list of reported cases our attorneys have before the Appellate Division and Supreme Court of New Jersey.

In the area of prepublication and newsgathering counseling, we understand the urgency our clients have to deliver breaking news. We make ourselves available to our clients around the clock. Our main focus is to facilitate the process of newsgathering and we are uncompromising in our commitment to providing prompt, objective pre-publication reviews of news stories and reports.

We advise our clients on issues relating to advertising and responding to administrative and judicial subpoenas. We share important information with our clients on legislation that affects their industry, from the Open Public Records Act to the impact of new telemarketing regulations. We regularly conduct seminars for our clients on developing areas of media law and regularly advise them on pending legislation that may have an effect on their operations.

Our media law attorneys collaborate with attorneys throughout the firm's practice groups to provide legal assistance in every area of law our clients require. Our business law attorneys provide legal assistance with transactions ranging from mergers and acquisitions and negotiating software license agreements to tax and real estate matters. Attorneys skilled in intellectual property help protect the intellectual property of our clients, such as copyrights and trademarks.
