Advanced Estate Planning Topics

Program Overview

Guest speaker Eric Donner, CLU, ChFC will make a presentation on how to develop and implement an estate plan. Mr. Donner will be followed by Scarinci Hollenbeck attorneys Frank Brunetti and Maureen Dougherty, who will introduce several “cutting edge” estate planning topics, including Grantor Retained Annuity Trusts (GRATs), Self Canceling Installment Notes (SCINs) and Installment Sales to Defective Grantor Trust.

With the current low interest rate environment, the techniques presented at this event will prove to work especially well. “Advanced Estate Planning Topics” will include a case study and explore the mechanics of these techniques. Attention will be paid to the “tax profit” and the income tax aspects of a GRAT. Additionally, the presenters will explore the use of SCINs in the estate planning process.

Frank L. Brunetti - Chair of Scarinci Hollenbeck’s Tax, Trusts & Estate Planning Group; Professor of Law and Taxation at the Fairleigh Dickinson University MS in Taxation Program and author of the upcoming Fundamentals of Federal Tax Accounting published by the American Law Institute-American Bar Association.

Maureen P. Dougherty - Counsel in Scarinci Hollenbeck’s Business Law and Tax, Trusts & Estates Planning Groups.
