Business Law: An Update for Accountants

Program Overview

This three-part program will update attendees on recent developments in business law affecting accountants. Topics to be addressed include the following:

The Realty Transfer Fee - An overview on real estate transfer and recording taxes and a discussion on the inclusive view the Division of Revenue has adopted toward assessment of these fees.

Technology Aspects of Business Contracts - A discussion of basic business contracts, including non-disclosure agreements, employment agreements, and licensing agreements, including a discussion on important contract provisions to protect the business owner and traps for the unwary. This part of the program will also include an overview of the technology-driven arrangements that are common today.

Legal Liability of Accountants - Best practices to avoid liability. A discussion of the basic statutory principles used to hold accountants liable and an update on recent case law.

Frank L. Brunetti - Chair of Scarinci Hollenbeck’s Tax, Trusts & Estate Planning Group; Professor of Law and Taxation at the Fairleigh Dickinson University MS in Taxation Program and author of the upcoming Fundamentals of Federal Tax Accounting published by the American Law Institute-American Bar Association.

Fred D. Zemel - Partner in Scarinci Hollenbeck’s Corporate Law & Commercial Transactions and Intellectual Property Groups.

John P. Libretti - Counsel in Scarinci Hollenbeck’s Commercial Real Estate Group with 30 years of real estate experience.
